Jamie Strange

About Councillor Strange

Councillor Jamie Strange was elected to Hamilton City Council in 2025, marking his first term in local government. Before joining Council, Councillor Strange built a diverse career across education and central government politics. 


He has taught at Berkley Middle School and Hamilton Christian School. His passion for community service led him into central government politics, where he 
represented Hamilton East in Parliament. First elected as a list MP in 2017, he went on to serve as the Hamilton East Member of Parliament from 2020 until stepping down in 2023.
 


In addition to
 his political experience, Councillor Strange has contributed to the community as a Trustee of WEL Trust, Board Member of Hamilton Boys High School, and through involvement with local sports clubs.
 


Now serving as an independent 
councillor, he brings extensive experience in governance, leadership, and strategic planning. Councillor Strange is dedicated to strengthening community engagement, promoting sustainable development, and fostering an inclusive, vibrant Hamilton. He is married with four children.
