About Councillor Huata
Councillor Maria Huata is serving her second term on Hamilton City Council, having been re-elected in the 2024 by-election to represent one of the Maaori ward seats.
Councillor Huata is a graduate of the University of Waikato and brings a deep and diverse background in Maaori practices, broadcasting, translation, interpretation, and education. Her career reflects a strong commitment to cultural advocacy and community empowerment. In the 2025–2028 triennium, she will serve as Chair of the Growth and Economics Committee and Deputy Chair of the Major Events Subcommittee.
Councillor Huata is driven by a passion for whānau, culture, education, and the environment.
