Sue Moroney

About Councillor Moroney

Councillor Sue Moroney was elected to Hamilton City Council in the 2025 local elections, beginning her first term in local government. Councillor Moroney brings extensive experience in public service, having served as a Member of Parliament from 2005 to 2017. 

Her career has spanned journalism, advocacy, and leadership roles. She spent 12 years working with the New Zealand Nurses Organisation, championing healthcare. Following her time in Parliament, Councillor Moroney was appointed Chief Executive of Community Law Centres Aotearoa in 2018. 


Now serving as an independent 
councillor, Cr Moroney is committed to applying her political, financial, and community expertise to support Hamilton’s growth and wellbeing.
