About Mayor Macindoe

Mayor Tim Macindoe was elected Mayor of Hamilton in the 2025 local elections, following his earlier service as a city councillor. His extensive career in public service spans education, arts administration, and national politics. 


Prior to becoming Mayor, Mayor Macindoe served as the 
Member of Parliament for Hamilton West from 2008 to 2020, holding roles such as Minister of Customs, Senior Government Whip, and Chair of the Justice and Electoral Select Committee. He also worked as a secondary school teacher and deputy principal, and later as CEO of Arts Waikato.
 


In 2024, he was elected to Hamilton City Council through a by-election and served as Deputy Chair of the Infrastructure and Transport Committee. As Mayor, he now chairs the Council and serves as Deputy Chair of the Chief Executive Review Committee.
 


Mayor Macindoe is passionate about Hamilton’s future and is focused on leading meaningful 
change. He continues to advocate for key initiatives such as the Waikato Medical School and remains active in community service through various voluntary roles.
