Project summary

What we’re doing

Hamilton City Council is installing a signalised pedestrian crossing on Heaphy Terrace between the Jamia Mosque and Stanley Street. This will make it easier for pedestrians and people using active modes of transport (biking, skateboarding, scootering etc) to access Claudelands Park, Claudelands Event Centre, Hamilton Jaima Mosque and day care centre, the Magical Bridge Playground and so on.

  • Work will get underway on 5 April 2025 and is expected to take five weeks to complete, weather dependent.
  • This work will be carried out in tandem alongside another project in the same area – the Ranfurly Gully wastewater upgrade – in order to minimise impact to road users and surrounding residents. This means that the road will be closed between the roundabout and Stanley Street during this time

Why we’re doing it

This will provide a safer way to get across the road for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is subsidised by the Transport Choices – Climate Emergency Response Fund and is required to be completed by 30 June 2025. This project supports our transport strategy vision where everyone can connect to people and places in safe, accessible and smart ways. This project will

  • Create a calmer street environment

  • Provide a safer place to cross the street

  • Improve connectivity for padestrians
