Western Rail Trail to Lake Domain

What we're doing

This project will improve connections from the Western Rail Trail to east Frankton, Lake Domain communities, and nearby recreational areas. We’ll upgrade existing paths, improve safety and form new connections to the Western Rail Trail.

The upgrades include:

• new pedestrian/cycle crossing facilities on Lake Domain Drive
• upgrade existing shared path connecting to Lake Domain Drive and Lake path from the Western Rail Trail
• lighting assessment and improvements along shared paths.

Why we're doing it

This project was identified in the Council’s Biking and Micro Mobility Programme as a key link between an employment zone around the Waikato Hospital, Frankton and the city centre.  

The improvements will provide a safe and easy-to-access network for pedestrians and people on bikes. 

This project is funded by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s Transport Choices programme that will help create a connected network across the city, supporting Council’s move to a low emissions transport system in response to climate change.
