We’re planning to construct a new urban play space at Boyes Park in the central city.
Rather than a large destination playground which tends to attract visitors from outside the area, this will be a medium-sized neighbourhood play space mainly used by people living and spending time in the central city around Boyes Park.
Community engagement was carried out from 22 July to 12 August to help shape the play space’s design. More information on the engagement is here.

We are aiming to begin construction of the play space in June 2026. An exact timeline is still to be confirmed. No, the play space at Boyes Park will be a neighbourhood play space. Neighbourhood play spaces are smaller than destination playgrounds and do not cost as much to construct. While destination playgrounds tend to attract visitors from outside the area, neighbourhood play spaces are mainly used by people who live or spend time within the local community.
Yes, anyone can share their views during the engagement period from 22 July to 12 August 2025. Because this will be a community play space and not a destination play space, we don’t expect a lot of families will travel in especially to visit it, so we will be promoting the survey to people who are already spending time in this part of the city – whether they live or work nearby, shop or dine regularly in the area or are a regular visitor for a different reason.
