We’re constructing a purpose-built facility for the Pukete Neighbourhood House to thrive and continue to provide essential support services for the community.
The new building will be next to the Te Rapa Sportsdrome in Ashurst Park, a decision made based on community feedback in 2023.
Pukete Neighbourhood House has leased part of Te Rapa Sportsdrome for 18 years but has outgrown the space it is in.
By moving into its own purpose-built facility, it will give them the space and resources to improve their service offering and free up valuable space in the Te Rapa Sportsdrome that can be used for sporting activities.
Key features include:
- flexible, bookable meeting areas and a community-run café cart
- large indoor spaces that open onto a patio for connecting or watching sports
- an industrial kitchen and first aid room for community groups and users.

Consultation with the community is underway – we're proposing to reclassify a section of Ashurst Park to accommodate the build of the new facility. -

Ground work and construction of the new building and grounds directly around the building. -
Stage 3 - Completed

The new Pukete Neighbourhood House will open.
Frequently asked questions
How long will it take to build?
The build of the new facility will start on 17 March 2025, with construction scheduled to take about 12 months.
Can Te Rapa Sportsdrome still be used during construction?
Absolutely! There will a small section of the carpark that will be part of the work site but the building will still be accessible just as it is now.
Will the outdoor toilets and changing rooms stay open?
Yes, you will be able to continue using them like you do now.
What is the project budget?
The budget for the project is $7.4 million and includes external funding.
Will any of the fields be blocked off/unavailable?
No. We have been careful with our site plan to make sure teams can continue using the fields for their practices and games.
What’s the plan for Pukete Neighourhood House’s space in Te Rapa Sportsdrome?
Once the new building is complete, the space will be available for another group(s) to use. The process and timeline for leasing the space is still to be developed.
