Project summary

Hamilton’s wastewater network is under pressure. The western network is at capacity, which means during heavy rain, there’s a higher risk of overflows into our environment.

This project focuses on core infrastructure improvements to:

  • reduce wet-weather overflows
  • ensure our existing water network can operate safely and reliably
  • support residential development in Glenview and Fitzroy
  • protect the Waikato River and meet obligations under Te Ture Whaimana o Te Awa o Waikato

What we're doing

  • Upgrading the Te Anau wastewater pump station.
  • Installing a new wastewater pipeline (and re-using an existing abandoned water pipe).
  • Redirecting wastewater flows from the Te Anau and Splitt wastewater pump stations to the Peacocke wastewater transfer station.

Wastewater upgrades map

This project will

  • Improve wastewater network resilience during wet weather and reduce the risk of overflows.

  • Assist in unlocking growth by increasing the capacity of the western wastewater network.

  • Ensure Hamilton’s wastewater system continues to meet environmental obligations.

Will there be noise, vibration, or dust during construction?

Yes, you may notice noise from machinery and trenching activities. Contractors will follow approved noise management plans to reduce disruption, and work will generally take place during daytime hours.

Some vibration and dust are expected during trenching and drilling. Environmental and safety management plans will be followed to minimise these impacts.
