Hamilton is one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing cities, and strategic planning is critical for enabling and supporting growth while maintaining our city’s liveability.
The Strategic Growth Committee balances how growth is funded, ensures the right data for planning, and enhances collaboration across the wider region to develop a cohesive approach to growth.
This committee was active during the 2019-2022 Council Triennium and was changed with the new governance structure in 2023.

Next steps for R2, WA and SL1 - To inform the committee of the next steps for R2, WA and SL1 as per the resolution at the 19 May 2021 and to delegate to the GM Growth to work with the Chair and Deputy Chair to finalise timing for commencing the next steps.
HUGS Review – July 2022 update - To provide an update on the progress of the Hamilton Urban Growth Strategy review. To receive approval of outcomes (as guided by the HUGS Reference Group) to inform the designed HUGS for consultation. To approve delegation to GM Growth to finalise HUGS and Statement of Proposal for consultation in October/November.
Approval of final Future Proof Strategy - Recommendation of the revised Future Proof Strategy for adoption.
General Manager’s Report - To inform the Strategic Growth Committee of topics/items/ issues that need to be formally presented to the Committee but do not warrant a standalone report.
Growth Programmes Update - To provide an update to the Strategic Growth Committee on the funded and emerging Growth Programmes including: Central City, Peacocke, Rotokauri-Northwest, Ruakura, and Emerging areas (out-of-boundary, unplanned or unfunded developments)
Development Contributions Remissions Quarter 4 2021/22 - To inform the Strategic Growth Committee on the development contribution remissions granted for Q4 of the 2021/22 financial year.
